FARGO, N.D. — U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao has accepted an invitation to attend and speak at this year’s Drone Focus Conference.
Chao will be hosted by U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., at the conference, which highlights advancements in drones, robotics and other technology. The U.S. Department of Transportation oversees the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates drone operations.
During her visit, Chao also will meet with representatives from Grand Forks to learn about regional research, operations and development of unmanned aircraft systems, a news release said.
“North Dakota continues to stand out as a leader in UAS technology research, development and training,” Hoeven said in a statement. “I appreciate Secretary Chao for accepting my invitation to visit the state and contribute to the 2017 Drone Focus Conference. We’re excited to show her the dynamic UAS industry in our state, and its benefits for the nation in agriculture, energy, border security and many other areas.”
Chao joins more than 45 other speakers converging on Fargo during the conference, which is held May 31 to June 1.
In addition to viewing presentations, Drone Focus attendees will have the opportunity to see flight and technology demonstrations, watch drone racing and network with individuals from across the United States and abroad.
